The Halifax Thunder hosted the Port City Fog on Saturday afternoon and came away with a 95-54 win. Playing without two of their leading scorers, the Port City Fog did their best to slow the game down and use their size around the rim, but they couldn’t slow the guards of the Thunder.

Alaina McMillan and Justine Colley-Leger, two former SMU Huskies playing in their home gym, put on a clinic in scoring and assisting. To start the game Justine attacked the rim and got to the foul line with great success, using her vision to thread the Port City defence and find lanes nobody but her could see.

Her ability to finish through contact and create her own shot gave the Thunder a consistent threat that could be unleashed regardless of how the rest of the team was doing. For the rest of the team, her backcourt teammate in Alaina McMillan was finding just as much success, in both scoring and assisting.

Whether she was initiating the offence as the primary ball handler, attacking off a give-and-go and finding shooters around the floor, or being the swing passer for threes, Alaina set up teammates all game and kept the Thunder offence going. Fancy finishes at the rim, step back threes at the buzzer like the end of the third quarter, or standard jumpers, nobody was stopping Alaina offensively and matched with Justine they dominated the game on both ends of the floor.

For the Fog, their efforts came from Allie Dunnett with several strong finishes at the rim, and Kaylee Kilpatrick, a MWBA veteran, using her footwork around the rim. As the Fog tried to slow down the pace and stop the Thunder from running, the execution that UPEI alum MacKenzee Ryan and the key baskets that McKinley Bezanson gave them helped keep rhythm going as Halifax kept their momentum rolling.

The Thunder stay undefeated at 4-0 and the Fog drop to 1-2.
