MVP Weinert

The Brock Badgers are 2-1 after a loss to the TMU Bold, but through their wins and losses, dating back to 2021, they’ve gotten all-star level contributions from their 5’10 guard from St. Catharines. This season it’s been raised to a new level.

Madalyn Weinert joined the Brock Badgers for the 2021 season and immediately started all 18 games. Averaging 11.7 points per game and 8.2 rebounds per game, Madalyn showed the ability to get into gaps in the defence and knock down mid range shots, while being in position for offensive rebounds.

Madalyn was an instant spark for the Badgers, and over the seasons following, that spark was relied upon more and more, leading to this season where Madalyn is the top contributor on the team and one of the only offensively.

The Badgers have struggled early finding consistent production outside of Oluwatito Akinnusi. Seeing the opportunity, Madalyn has taken full control of the team and has pushed the Badgers with 21.3 points per game, 8.3 rebounds per game and 4.3 assists per game with 5 blocks and 6 steals through their first three games.

Playing 30 minutes per game and shooting 48 per cent from the field, Madalyn has become the life of the Badgers team. Her leadership on the floor directing others where to go, her versatility on both sides of the ball knowing where to be and how to execute, and her tenacity to do whatever it takes to get a win, Madalyn has proved to be one of the top competitors in this league and she has the talent to back it up.

When you mention Brock Basketball, you have to mention Madalyn Weinert over the last 3 seasons. This 2023 team, with the gaps they have to fill and the shoes that need to be stepped into, will go as far as Madalyn takes them, and with 20+ points in two of her first three games, Madalyn is proving to the league there is no expectation larger than her own.

Madalyn has played at a MVP level, and where she’s able to go with this team will only further build her legacy that she immediately created with her rookie and sophomore season performance. An OUA All-Rookie and OUA second team All-Star nod is already in the chamber for Madalyn, and with the product she’s putting on the floor game by game, it’s hard to imagine a MVP trophy won’t be added to the collection by the time her career is done.
